Tapes are recorded nightly, so it is typical to expect the loss of at least a full day’s work.

Hi-5 updates backups every 15 minutes limiting data loss to just 15 minutes worst case scenario.

How secure is my data?

Tapes can and do get lost in transit. Not all are encrypted and that presents a significant risk to sensitive material.

Hi-5 encrypts data at source and it is never returned to a readable format until it is directly in your hands.

How expensive will it be to run the system?

Every three to five years tape systems must be replaced causing extensive and recurring capital expense not to mention the cost of tape libraries, transport and new tapes every 3 months.

Hi-5 is a fully managed service with a fixed monthly service fee and no capital expense. Hardware, offsite services, management and support are all included in the subscription fee.

How hard is it to manage backups?

Tape requires ongoing, daily attention to make sure that backups happen. Then regular testing is essential as well as moving data offsite to prevent DR risk.
